As 2010 comes to a close, we can definitely say this was the best year of our lives. We got to travel the world photographing weddings in Mongolia, Venezuela, England, Costa Rica and all over the US, from the Ritz-Carlton in Miami Beach to the Shack-Up Inn in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Everywhere we went, we found new friends who showed us just how varied and interesting life can be. And to top off this remarkable year, Erin and I got married — twice! Our first wedding was in Las Vegas with a few friends and family, and then two weeks later we got married again at Hacienda Uayamon in Campeche, Mexico, with our family, about 40 of our photographer friends and 20 of our wonderful couples who we at one time got to witness get married with our cameras.
Since we know a huge number of wedding photographers, choosing one for our own wedding in Mexico might have seemed overwhelming. But we had always imagined two people to photograph our wedding – Kitty and Craig Fritz of Twin Lens Images. I have known Kitty and Craig for over 10 years. We were newspaper photographers in New Mexico together, and they have been my idols ever since I first saw their photos. They are real documentary photographers who show life with all its raw beauty and grit. And with their medium-format film cameras, their Holgas and their digital SLRs, they perfectly showed how magical Mexico can be, while also giving us photographs that we will always look back on as evidence of one of the most exhilarating and important weeks of our lives.
Along with Kitty and Craig, our friend and associate Aaron Morris photographed both the Vegas and Mexico weddings. We haven’t seen Aaron’s photos yet, or Vlad’s full-length film. But we’ll be sure to share those with you as well as soon as we get them.
Thank you to everyone who made 2010 so incredible. We love you all and wish everyone a very happy New Year!
