It’s always an honor to be asked to shoot a fellow photographer’s wedding. It’s also intimidating. Mike is a well-known U.K. wedding photographer and also teaches photography workshops.
Marie had always wanted a Christmas wedding, so the couple made their plans at the old English manor Stoke Place in the middle of December. Everyone we met was in a festive holiday mood, which made the wedding weekend even more exciting. We had been warned that English weddings were a bit different from American weddings, and some of our photographer friends were curious how we’d handle this one. But we just treated it like we do all weddings, and what we found were honest emotions, rich color, and the permission to light sparklers indoors.
The day was a blast for our eyes, and Mike and Marie were incredibly kind to us, willing to tromp back out into the freezing winter night for more portraits whenever we spotted a patch of interesting light or came up with a new idea.
We’ll be seeing Mike again next week at the Foundation Workshop in Austin. Then we’ll get to see how an English photographer handles Texas.
