Weddings in Mexico are magical. There’s something about going to another country - a sunny, beautiful country - with your closest family and friends for the party of your life. It’s a vacation, it’s relaxing, it’s adventurous, and you can let loose and just revel in the exotic, gorgeous beaches and ocean. It’s also fun to watch your guests test their limits with tequila! We chose Mexico for our own wedding, and it was probably the most perfect week of our lives.
There are many different types of weddings you can have in Mexico. The most popular is the beach wedding, and for good reason. The beaches in Mexico are intoxicatingly beautiful, and the water is clear aquamarine blue. You can have a church wedding - Catholic churches are abundant. We especially love the chapel at the One & Only Palmilla in Cabo. And then you can have a wedding in the jungle, which is what we did, at the most beautiful location in Mexico (in our opinion, haha), the Hacienda Uayamon in Campeche.
Take a look below at some of our favorite weddings from Mexico, and you’ll get a good dose of some great Mexico wedding locations and destination wedding planning ideas.
Here are some wedding tips for rounding out your Mexico vacation:
- Stay for a week! Truly make a vacation out of it. Schedule plans for your guests on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Here’s a good sample wedding itinerary for a Mexico wedding: Thursday: Margarita Welcome Party with a taco truck (you can hire a taco truck to come to your location, unless the venue doesn’t allow outside catering). Friday: Rehearsal Dinner with full Mexican dinner - maybe have a tequila tasting station! Saturday: Wedding Day! During the reception, have your caterer do passed tequila shots on the dance floor. This is always so much fun and makes for great photos. Sunday: Poolside Recovery Brunch with chill music.
- Hire a local independent wedding planner. It can be very difficult and very frustrating planning a wedding in another country without a local person helping you.
- Find a way to incorporate a Mariachi band or a Mexican trio, either for your rehearsal dinner, wedding day cocktail hour, or reception. The authentic music will really set the tone of the event, and allow everyone to feel the full magic of Mexico.
