New Yorkers getting married in Charleston tend to find their way to us, and it’s always a sublime partnership. In Sally and Dylan’s case, their wedding designer Sha Sha at Loluma played matchmaker once she learned that Sally and Dylan had met while living in San Francisco, attending a Burning Man event. Ben and I used to live in San Francisco and went to Burning Man for many years before moving to Charleston almost a decade ago. She thought our aesthetic values and general personalities would align perfectly, and she was right.
Sally and Dylan’s Charleston wedding at The Cedar Room was modern, vibrant, edgy and unique. They had both their ceremony and reception in the ballroom, which meant a quick flip between the two events while guests sipped champagne and cocktails outside in the courtyard. But the ceiling decor – a blend of lush greenery and disco balls – remained for the entire day and was a major showstopper.
Sally and Dylan, being nontraditional people, hired DJ Wade with Other Brother Entertainment to play their reception like a club DJ – deep house music with lots of glowy LED lighting effects. They also brought in two LED hoop dancers from Myrtle Beach to perform in front of the DJ booth. Photographically, it was an awesome scene. The bride and groom and their friends kept the dance floor busy all night, to say the least.
This Cedar Room wedding was exactly what we love to photograph – a super-fun couple who are deeply in love and don’t mind stepping outside the box for their wedding plans. Everything was beautiful, the day was lighthearted and fun, and Sally and Dylan rarely left each other’s side. They did it right, and stayed true to who they are and what’s important to them. That’s wedding success in our book!
