As Charleston wedding photographers, Kiawah Island, about 45 minutes outside of Charleston, is one of our absolute favorite places to photograph a wedding.
Lisa and Sanjay were married in a Kiawah wedding at the River Course. But it all started with cookies in New York.
Sanjay couldn’t believe his luck when he was given a desk beside the beautiful and intriguing Lisa. He was at Paramount in New York for his job as a media and entertainment consultant. Lisa is a senior manager for Paramount’s global business operations. He noticed that she liked sweets, so he began leaving a cookie on her desk every day. It got her attention.
And then suddenly she was the one who was intrigued – by this kind, quirky, talented man. Most people who know Lisa would describe her pretty much the same way – kind, funny, super sharp, with a side of humorous.
Love and Laughter, Always
Together, Lisa and Sanjay are a remarkable combination of romantic and goofy. Sanjay was overcome with emotion many times during their wedding day on the River Course at Kiawah. He is deeply smitten with Lisa. He said in his vows he couldn’t believe his luck when he got to sit by Lisa at work.
But it seemed he still couldn’t believe his luck that he got to marry her. For Lisa’s part, we caught her staring into Sanjay’s eyes throughout the day. She connected with him on a level that was just between the two of them. And yes, right after looking into each other’s eyes they would move right into weird faces and making fun of each other. I got the feeling there are a lot of inside jokes between these two.
Reception at River Course Clubhouse
Lisa and Sanjay are impressive people who don’t take themselves too seriously. Their reception at the River Course Clubhouse was high-energy and hilarious (especially when one of their friends got on the mic and sang the entirety of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” as everyone danced and sang along with him at the top of their lungs).
The backdrop to this ridiculously fun wedding day was pure beauty – a dream wedding day designed by Lisa and her mom Mary Beth (they were their own wedding planners) and brought to life by Noah, the creative genius behind The Bearded Florist. There were beautiful things, and interesting people, to photograph all day.
After the Wedding
But I prefer to think about Lisa and Sanjay back home in New York, meeting up at their apartment after a long day at work, knowing they have found lifelong sanctuary with each other. Because that is where it’s real. And that is where it matters most. Luck may have had a role in putting them in each other’s path. But they can definitely take it from here.
