This Puerto Vallarta wedding, like most weddings of the past year anywhere in the world, had to overcome many obstacles, challenges and setbacks to get to this point. That fact was not lost one anyone, and only made this celebration more special and meaningful.
Halfway to the bottom of the long set of concrete stairs leading to her wedding ceremony, Sara paused and looked out at the ocean, and her guests, below. On her face I saw serenity, joy and resolve. She and Grant were finally getting their day.
Of course, this wasn’t the day it was supposed to happen. Their original wedding day was way back last summer, when the world had shut down. On this day, eight months later in February, things were certainly not anywhere close to being back to normal. But, even still, it was proving to be the perfect day. It was almost unbelievable that they had truly made it happen. Sara wanted to savor every second.
Puerto Vallarta wedding
Grant, Sara and their 35 guests spent the week in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, staying at the beautiful Casa La Villita, a private, sprawling villa that allowed them to escape the tensions and restrictions of pandemic life back at home in Portland, Oregon, if just for a little while. They all tested (negative) for Covid when they arrived, and tested again before they left. Many kept their masks on while in close proximity to others. Sara and Grant made this wedding happen as safely as they possibly could, and were rewarded with a beautiful, fun week surrounded by love and happiness.
That is to say, their wedding at Le Kliff was the stuff of dreams for people who had been in lockdown for nearly a year. They put on makeup and fancy dresses and suits, hugged each other, feasted on a wedding dinner served on fine dinnerware instead of takeout boxes, and danced for hours.
Mexico destination wedding at its best
There were fireworks and an aerial dancer, a surprise performance by the wedding party, a shirtless moment (standard for Mexico destination weddings!), and the thrill of freedom. Freedom to breathe the same air as others, freedom to hug, freedom to not have to worry so much. Freedom to celebrate and embark on a new chapter of life in the name of love.
This flawless day was expertly led by the amazing team of Priscilla and Nitza at Prisar Vallarta. We were also fortunate to have the very talented Jorge Tse as an additional photographer. You will see some of his awesome photos in this post!
