There are so many predictable puns to be made here about “taking a gamble” or “playing your cards right.”
But for these two, it’s just what happened. Sarah was filling in as a card dealer for a game of Texas Hold ‘Em at the restaurant where she normally worked as a bartender. Danny, who is friends with the owner of the restaurant, was playing in the game. I guess you could say Sarah dealt him a good hand, because he ended up winning the game.
They both felt a connection, and had their first “unofficial” date for breakfast at a coffee shop in Pasadena, after Sarah got off of a late shift. They turned the unofficial date into an official date by having dinner together that night. “We have been inseparable since,” Sarah told me.
Sarah and Danny live in Los Angeles but chose to marry at The Fairmont in San Francisco, as that is her hometown. “The Fairmont is such a historic and beautiful hotel,” Sarah said. “We knew immediately when we saw the Gold Room that it would be perfect for the reception, as it reminded us of the ornate French palaces we visited in Paris, the city where Danny proposed.”
Sarah and Danny get overwhelmed trying to think of the best moments from their wedding day, as there were so many. But one in particular stands out in their memories. It was toward the end of the reception, and the song “We Are Young” by Fun was playing. “Everyone on the dance floor ended up hugging one another in a big circle and singing at the top of our lungs ‘Tonight, we are young, so let’s set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the sun.’ No one wanted the party to end.”
