I so wish I could have been a fly on the wall at Sarah and Mike’s first date, to see the look on Mike’s face when Sarah ordered a half-dozen deviled eggs as an appetizer.
That bold move has become an ongoing joke in their relationship, and Mike even incorporated it into his proposal – by having a waiter bring Sarah a platter of deviled eggs “from a special someone” who was waiting for her upstairs at the restaurant.
“I still don’t think deviled eggs is strange to order as an appetizer on a first date,” she said. “Mike thinks it’s hilarious and an ‘aggressive’ choice.”
Their venue hunting led them to The Holly Farm in Carmel, California, and Sarah and Mike fell in love immediately. “The grounds are stunning, lush and green with multiple beautiful areas that made the wedding feel unique,” Sarah said. “There are lots of winding paths and nooks which give it so much character. It almost feels like an oasis in Hawaii…but it’s in Carmel Valley. It really felt magical.”
Sarah and Mike put their most important people up front for the ceremony, including having Mike’s 8-year-old son Jack as the best man, and Mike’s 10-year-old daughter Ryan as a junior bridesmaid. Jack and his dad surprised everyone by doing the worm in the middle of the dance floor at the reception, which remains one of Sarah’s favorite memories from the day. “This was such a fun moment that I’ll never forget,” she said. “Although Mike did say his knees were hurting for weeks afterwards.”
Well, that’s just a small price to pay for letting loose and having the time of your life on a day that will go down in (family) history.
