We are a Lowndes Grove Wedding Photographer studio that lives just blocks from the venue.
Lowndes Grove weddings have the rare privilege of a Charleston wedding venue that truly has it all. Brides and grooms can get ready inside this historic home, with access to the beautiful, high-ceilinged rooms inside – including the dramatic, wide piazza on the second floor. In addition, the interior is thoughtfully furnished with period pieces from the late 1700s.
Everything about Lowndes Grove is very authentic. Yet, everything is also very usable, which is rare for old Charleston homes!
Charleston Wedding at a Historic Home
This historic home is located directly on the Ashley River and is one of the last late-18th-century estates with waterfront views. Furthermore, it’s situated among 14 acres of ancient oak trees, giving you lots of space to roam (and lots of photo locations!).
For Lowndes Grove weddings, you can (and should!) have your ceremony outdoors. The light is stunning in the late afternoon and early evening. Most receptions happen outside as well, on the grand lawn under a tent. Fortunately, the grand lawn allows for a large number of guests. In addition, you get a panoramic view of the sun setting over the water. With a wall surrounding the property and the multitude of oak trees surrounding the property, you will also feel very secluded and private on your big day.
What we Love about Lowndes Grove Weddings:
- Location on the Ashley River. You will love stealing time away from your party with a long walk out onto the pier with your new spouse (and us and our cameras) 😉
- There is a lot of land and a tall gate around the property, giving your party some privacy (Lowndes Grove is located in a residential neighborhood).
- The house itself is SO beautiful and classic, with its checkerboard tile floors, colorful walls and spiral staircase.
- The late afternoon light is absolutely divine. As photographers, it’s the kind of light we live for. So, make sure to schedule your ceremony late enough in the day to take advantage of it!
- Lowndes Grove weddings are still downtown, but north of the main touristy area of Charleston. That makes logistics (and traffic, and parking) so much easier.
- Lowndes Grove is so beautiful and so big that you will not need to leave the property for additional photos. Inside the house, outside the house, the long dock… there are so many options. This will save you time so you get the most out of your wedding day (and you’re not stuck in Saturday traffic on a trolley).
- Lowndes Grove is located right in our own neighborhood of Wagener Terrace. We live close enough to walk or ride our bikes to your wedding (though we probably won’t, what with all the camera gear!). But it’s pretty special to be so close to such a special place.
Live like the Cameron family on “Outer Banks”
And a bit of pop culture: For fans of the Netflix show Outer Banks, Lowndes Grove is the house used as the main residence of the Cameron family. Scenes are filmed outside as well as inside. And, if you book your wedding at Lowndes Grove but haven’t yet seen the show, definitely make time to do that before your wedding!
