Looking for a unique Southern wedding venue that will surprise and intrigue your guests? Charleston, South Carolina, offers the Old City Jail, a real jail that was operational from 1802 to 1939 and housed pirates and other notorious criminals.
Our clients held their ceremony in one of the rooms inside the jail, lit by candles. For cocktail hour, guests wandered the hallways and rooms, sipping cocktails and having their photos made in one of the preserved jail cells. The reception brought guests back outside for a classic Southern wedding party under a big white tent constructed right beside the jail. Their wedding was featured in Martha Stewart Weddings’ online edition.
We love the gothic architecture of the Old City Jail, and the mystery and intrigue that come with being in such a storied location in the South.
The Old City Jail was recently purchased and renovated by Landmark Enterprises (a company we also photograph for). Landmark rebranded the space as Twenty-One Magazine (its physical address) and now offers events and weddings for all types of parties.
The renovated event space features grand ballrooms and open-air spaces that will enchant your guests who may have never visited the Deep South before. The venue can accommodate 500+ guests for larger events, or more intimate areas for smaller parties. It is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service.
