We are a William Aiken House Wedding Photography studio that lives downtown just minutes from the venue.
William Aiken House weddings are a beautiful combination of historic Charleston architecture, Southern hospitality, and a convenient location. This 1807 former private home is now a busy event venue in the heart of downtown Charleston. The “yellow house,” with its perfectly manicured lawn, courtyard, and carriage house, is perfect for those looking for elegance, inviting grounds, grand piazzas, and old-world Charleston glamour.
The formal rooms and parlors inside – painted lush, rich colors – usher guests into an inviting atmosphere of Southern hospitality. Additionally, the privacy makes this venue feel like a welcome retreat from the crowds of King Street.
Most wedding ceremonies at the William Aiken House are held outdoors. They can be in front of the beautiful carriage house or in front of the pergola and reflecting pool.
Receptions can be on the lawn (think sophisticated, classic garden party), under a tent, or in the two formal dining rooms and ballrooms inside.
Convenient, Lively Location in Downtown Charleston
The William Aiken house was built in 1807 and is located on Upper King Street in downtown Charleston. It’s tucked away and mostly behind thick greenery, allowing some privacy. However, the courtyard is visible through a wrought-iron gate on King Street. It’s not uncommon to see a gaggle of tourists taking a peek at the lavish parties on the other side of the gate. Honestly, it’s just part of the fun of getting married in a historic home that happens to be smack dab in the middle of all the action on King Street.
Many of the historic homes used for wedding venues in Charleston are on the outskirts of town, even 15 or 20 minutes away. So if your desire is to keep everything downtown, where your guests can simply walk to your wedding from their hotels, William Aiken House is the perfection option. The luxurious Hotel Bennett is only a 4-minute walk. The Hyatt House is only a 7-minute walk. Moreover, the William Aiken House can hold up to 500 guests, which again is rare for a downtown Charleston wedding venue.
What we Love about William Aiken House Weddings
As photographers, we love the colorful walls inside the William Aiken House. The colors, along with the period furniture and decor, make for amazing backdrops for portraits! The deep red room and emerald green groom are especially gorgeous. Also, we love that you have this fantastic combination of outdoor space and indoor space.
