Charleston wedding venue the William Aiken House is perfect for those looking for elegance, inviting grounds, grand piazzas, and a touch of modern sophistication. The formal rooms and parlors inside – painted lush, rich colors – allow you and your guests to experience classic, old-world elegance and glamour on your wedding day. Additionally, the privacy allows this venue to feel like a retreat from the crowds of King Street.
Most wedding ceremonies at the William Aiken House are held outdoors either in front of the beautiful carriage house or in front of the pergola and reflecting pool. Receptions can be on the lawn (think sophisticated, classic garden party), under a tent, or in the two formal dining rooms and ballrooms inside.
The William Aiken house was built in 1820 and is located in downtown Charleston. It was built by John Robinson in 1817. However, William Aiken and his son Governor William Aiken Jr. resided here. In 1975, this historic home was donated to the Charleston Museum. It is now part of the Historic Charleston Foundation as a historic house museum. This house is considered the best preserved home of antebellum domestic structures in Charleston. One of downtown Charleston's architectural gems, it truly encompasses the 19th-Century elegance of this historic city.
