The life of a photographer is fun. It’s also a dirty, sweaty mess of a job we’re honored to have.
You can always tell a photographer who loves what they are doing by how they move in a crowd. It’s a dance. Sometimes an elegant one. Sometimes you gotta make moves that would make your grandparents look away.
But the photographer who loves being a photographer never looks away, ever. We want to see it all, and we get into positions no one else will to make sure you remember it all. Every single time.
A lot of photographers are scared to be real photographers. They are too timid because they feel like they might be in someone’s way. They are lazy because they don’t know the effort it takes to get a great photo, and they don’t really care enough to want to know. They fill their websites with bullshit photos of models they take on fake assignments just to trick you into thinking they know what they are doing. They care more about looking cool than getting the shot.
We are not those photographers.
We aren’t scared to ruin a suit, or even a camera, to get something special for you. We’ve done it too many times to count.
This photography thing is the only job we’ve ever had since we all studied it in our respective universities. We didn’t start out as graphic designers. We didn’t go to law school, only to realize we hated our jobs and thought photography would be easier. We didn’t pick up a camera one day at Costco and suddenly think “I can do this too!”.
Not us. We’ve been living and breathing this life for 20 years, so if you want to know what a passionate photographer goes through to get a photo for you, here it is.
People often tell us they’ve never seen photographers have so much fun or move so much during the day. It’s the truest compliment we could ever receive. Every time we are asked to photograph an event, a family, a milestone… it’s a huge honor we do not take for granted. We give it our all, and we have a blast every step of the way. Sometimes Ben will be sprawled on the ground to get a unique angle that turns a moment into art. Don’t be surprised when you want to make Mauricio an honorary bridesmaid (we hear this a lot!). Or when you hear that Ryan has become everyone’s favorite new friend. And you might not see Matt at all, but he’s there. And when Vlad goes to grab that beer from the bar at the end of the night, trust us, you’ll know he’s earned it.
