These Mount Pleasant maternity portraits were extremely important to Summer and Kevin. The first time they booked maternity portraits with us, it was with Summer’s first pregnancy. But their son Caleb surprised everyone and came much earlier than expected. After Caleb was deemed healthy enough to leave the NICU, we turned the maternity session into a newborn session. This was back in 2018. Those newborn photos became artwork on the walls of their bedroom. The photos represented everything they had gone through to get their little boy, and everything they were grateful for now that he was a normal, healthy kid.
However, Summer remained disappointed that she missed out on her maternity photos. So when she and Kevin became pregnant with their second son, they made it clear how crucial these photos were for her. Fortunately, this pregnancy went according to plan, and Summer finally got her maternity photos.
Behind the Scenes
I photographed these Mount Pleasant maternity portraits entirely at the family’s home. I set up a black backdrop and studio lights for the first half of the session. For the second half, I simply used the natural light in their home, turning normal spots they see every day into beautiful, artistic settings. Having her first son Caleb be part of the photos was important to Summer as well. The photos will always show Caleb how much he is loved and adored by his parents even though he has to share them with his baby brother now.
And now there are four!
The Landers family is now a part of four, and Ben photographed baby Isaiah’s newborn photos a couple months later, again at the Landers’ house. It brings us so much joy to see this family thriving, and to see the early bond developing between the two brothers.
