Shortly after we moved to Charleston, Ben started going on late-afternoon bike rides around town with his camera.
One evening, he was riding near the marsh in our neighborhood, when he saw a guy down on one knee, clearly in the middle of a proposal. Without thinking twice, Ben got off his bike and went over to them. By the time he got to the end of the dock where Meredith and Cameron were standing, the proposal was finished (and she had clearly said yes), but Ben offered to take a few photos of them right afterward and email them. I mean, what are the chances that a professional photographer happens to stumble onto a proposal taking place?
Ben also offered to do a real engagement session for them later on, and to his delight they took him up on it. This was just one of those serendipitous occurrences that reminded us how important it is to get out of the office and into the world more often and to follow our instincts. Even though we ended up not being available for Meredith and Cameron’s actual wedding date, we did make an album of engagement photos for them. And now we also have this great story to tell of the beauty of chance encounters.
