Santa Fe is called the “land of enchantment” for good reason. As photographers, the prettiest light we have ever seen has been in Santa Fe. Santa Fe has also done a fantastic job of preserving the city's unique Old West atmosphere. Most of the homes and businesses are made of adobe, residents walk the streets in worn cowboy boots, and full-costumed mariachis are a common sight. Having a Santa Fe wedding promises an adventurous destination wedding experience for your guests, especially those from the East Coast who aren't used to seeing such things every day. It's no wonder then that Santa Fe is an especially popular wedding destination for New York couples.
Below are three great wedding tips for creating a truly Santa Fe wedding.
- The warm, magical light in New Mexico is a quality of light you won't see in many other places. It's one of the things that developed Ben's photography style when he lived there. When making your wedding day schedule, set aside some time for portraits of the two of you about an hour before sunset to take advantage of it.
- Have a mariachi band parade you and your guests down the street from your ceremony to your reception.
- Have a least one menu item incorporate green chile - a delicious staple of the New Mexico diet.
One of the best things about Santa Fe is also the amazing restaurants, so definitely make sure to try a few during your time here. Below is a list of our favorite Santa Fe restaurants:
1. La Choza : Get the blue corn enchiladas and several rounds of their tasty, super-strong margaritas.
2. Cafe Pasqual’s : You'll need reservations, especially on a weekend. This is a nicer, more expensive restaurant, and completely worth it. Cozy, romantic setting, amazing wine list, knowledgeable servers, and food that will absolutely blow you away. The Huevos Motuleños for breakfast is our favorite dish.
3. Maria’s : Authentic New Mexican cuisine. Casual atmosphere. Maria's is a favorite among the locals.
