We are Charleston, SC wedding photographers, who photograph weddings all over the world. This Indian wedding took us to the Riviera Maya, Mexico, for four days of celebration.
CA and CA: Not the Same, but Close Enough
There is no question the universe was intent on getting these two together. They met basically by accident. When Ana was searching a dating app, and specified “CA” as her search zone, she was looking for eligible men in California. Sundeep’s photo came up and she excitedly swiped right, feeling an instant connection. As they began talking online, she casually asked about the weather one day. “Cold!” Sunny replied. Ana was confused. Cold in California?
They then discovered, in what must have been a bug at the time, that the app they were using was grouping Californians and Canadians together under “CA.” That was inconvenient. But it wasn’t a deal-breaker. They were not about to let each other go, even if it meant embarking on a long-distance, international relationship.
Indian Destination Wedding in Mexico
Needless to say, it all worked out beautifully. But picking a wedding location proved to be difficult – Houston, where Ana lived? Alberta, Canada, where Sunny lived? Somewhere else altogether? They chose to have their wedding at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya resort in Mexico. The Grand Velas proved to be the perfect wedding location for an Indian wedding. The spacious layout of the resort, with its multiple gorgeous pools and several restaurants, allowed everyone to spread out and make a vacation of it. It also allowed the many events of the wedding to each have their own unique setting: the welcome party in the courtyard of one of the restaurants; the Haldi by the more private, tucked-away pool; the Sangeet on the beach; the Baraat in the tree-lined driveway in front of the lobby; the wedding ceremony in a different spot by the beach; and the reception in the ballroom.
There was a lot going on all weekend during this Indian destination wedding – so many events, with very long days, in hot, tropical weather. But every minute of every day held so much heart, so much emotion. The wedding guests were all family, and friends who were as close as family. So every single person was heavily invested in the happiness of Ana and Sunny. It was one of those weddings where you can almost feel every little piece of life fall peacefully into place. It is good to see the people you love find the love that they deserve.
Best Friends and Lovers for Life
My favorite moment from the whole wedding weekend was at the reception, during Sunny’s speech. He acknowledged that so many people in the room felt like *they* were Ana’s best friend, because of how much devotion she gives to each person in her life. “Well, she’s MY best friend now,” he said, with a big smile on his face. Everyone wants Ana in their lives, and everyone wants Sunny in their lives. But Ana and Sunny want each other more than anything else in the world.
Everyone seems OK with the new arrangement. Chalk another one up for love.
