We are Charleston wedding photographers who often photograph weddings in other places. This one was just a short flight away in New Orleans.
This New Orleans Athletic Club wedding was the result of embracing change, over and over again.
From the very beginning of their relationship, Devin and Matthew were forced to think outside the box.
Devin was living in Minnesota working as a TV news anchor and had been on too many “disaster dates” to count. So one day she expanded her age settings on a dating app. And voila, Matthew, eight years older than she was, showed up on her radar.
Happiness Outside the Comfort Zone
She learned he didn’t drink, which meant they couldn’t go on the kinds of dates she was used to – bars and breweries. So they had to get more creative with their dating ideas. They started going hiking together, which for the athletic Matthew was natural. For Devin, not so much. But she learned to just go with these alternative date ideas, which opened her up to new experiences. After dating six months, Devin got a new job in Baltimore, and to her surprise Matthew decided to come along! It’s not something she would ever have been comfortable with previously, but again, she just went with it.
New Orleans Athletic Club Wedding
They’ve now been together six years and live in New Orleans. Their original wedding, set for October 2020, was postponed and postponed again until it finally all came together a full year later, in October 2021. Needless to say, their New Orleans Athletic Club wedding was a huge release of happiness and celebration for people who had been waiting for this moment for way too long. Waiting not just to watch these two finally have their wedding day, but also to have the opportunity to party without masks on, to feel normal again.
A year before this all happened, Devin and Matthew had had a quiet legal wedding ceremony in the park on their original wedding date. It was just them and their parents. So was it strange to them having a “wedding” a year after they had already been married? Not at all. They learned a long time ago that nothing about their lives was ever going to be normal. Being able to adapt was the key to happiness. Sometimes you just need to expand your settings to see what is possible.
