At Derice and Gary’s Bali Indonesia wedding last year, Ben and I were having breakfast at the hotel and struck up a conversation with two guys who were also there for the wedding. Most of the wedding guests had come from Taiwan, but these guys were from San Francisco, like us. So we hit it off right away, and even discovered that one of them had been the patient of another groom of ours, Lou, who is a doctor in San Francisco (See Lou and Neil’s wedding here).
When it came time for Winston and Brian’s own wedding back home, they reached out to us for help, and we had the perfect photographer for them – our newest associate Ryan Zhang.
Winston and Brian were married in their own backyard, and afterward Ryan took them to the Sutro Baths ruins for portraits. Then the party continued at The Box SF, an event space in the city. One of Winston and Brian’s favorite moments of the day came during the reception. Right after the speeches ended, Brian’s favorite song “At Last” by Etta James came on, simply through serendipity, and they took it as a cue for their first dance. “It just happened to be the song that started playing when we finished our speeches,” Brian said. “We had no DJ, so it was pure chance.”
Those are my favorite kinds of moments too – the perfect surprises you can never predict.
